Nikon Wedding Photographers Summit 2024

I’ve just got back from an amazing trip to Lanzarote courtesy of Nikon Europe for their invitation only Wedding Photographer’s Summit 2024, which was an absolute treat not only to be flown to a far sunnier climate than hear in the UK in January, but because I was being given the opportunity to try out Nikon’s professional range of Z cameras and lenses.

So where does Nikon fit with me? My interest in photography was sparked in my teens, quickly became an obsession. Right from the beginning I shot with Nikon film cameras - because everyone back then knew they were the best. During my professional photography career my camera kit has evolved with me, mirroring my style as it’s developed and allowing me to capture images in the way that I want them to look.

The new Nikon Z8 & Z9 are hailed as the best mirrorless cameras on the market today and they certainly didn’t disappoint. It was great to be able to shoot with these cameras how I wanted, having the freedom to try out the type of shots that I would shoot as if I was actually at a wedding, as well as trying out a few creative shots to see what the results would be.

I was particularly impressed by how the kit dealt with the super bight Lanzarote sunshine and big ticks for the auto focus system which I found to be hyper fast, accurate and never missed a shot in AF-C focus teamed with eye detection mode which I always use.

Along with the awesome Z8 & Z9 there was a great selection of professional Z lenses to try out. I shoot with them all but as I’ve always used prime glass the 50m Z f1.2 and 85m Z f1.2 instantly appealed to me, I can honestly say these lenses created some of the nicest most extraordinary bokeh and sharpness I’ve ever seen.

The future for me is the Nikon Z9 and I can’t wait to have it in my camera bag. …..
